Precision-attachment dentures
Precision-attachment dentures use specialised components to retain a removable restoration. Terms such as “clip-in dentures” can describe different systems, so it is important to understand what will support the proposed design.

Assessing support
The number, position and health of remaining teeth, the tissues and the bite are considered. Supporting teeth may need crowns or other preparation. A tooth-supported attachment denture is not the same treatment as a removable denture retained by implants.
Setting expectations
Some designs reduce visible retaining components, but appearance, retention and maintenance must be discussed together. The denture may still be removable by the patient. It should not be presented as a completely maintenance-free substitute for fixed teeth.
Use and follow-up
Attachment components can wear and may need servicing or replacement. Insert and remove the denture as demonstrated without forcing it. Clean supporting teeth and attachment areas carefully. If retention decreases, arrange a review rather than pressing harder to seat it.
