Smile design
Smile design is a planning process, not one specific procedure. It considers the appearance of the teeth and gums together with oral health, starting with the details you would like to change about your own smile.

What is included?
Colour, tooth shape and position, gum display, the bite and existing restorations are assessed. Photographs, impressions or other appropriate records can support the discussion. The plan identifies individual needs rather than applying the same procedure to the same number of teeth in every patient.
Choosing procedures
Orthodontics or whitening may be sufficient in some cases. Composite bonding, veneers or other restorations may be considered in others. Any gum-related procedure needs its own assessment. Discuss how much natural tooth structure would be altered and whether a less extensive option is available.
Making an informed decision
A preview or trial, where used, helps clarify expectations; it cannot guarantee how real tissues will respond or how a result will last. Ask about treatment stages, maintenance and possible future replacement of restorations.
