Hygiene and infection prevention
Hygiene in dentistry involves more than the visible cleanliness of a room. Hand hygiene, appropriate protective equipment, surface cleaning and processing instruments according to their use are important parts of infection prevention.

Key Steps in Instrument Reprocessing
Pre-Cleaning & Washing
Used instruments are cleaned to remove debris using validated cleaning solutions or ultrasonic baths.
Disinfection & Drying
Instruments undergo medical-grade disinfection, thorough drying and close visual inspection.
Sealed Packaging & Indicators
Instrument sets are enclosed in heat-sealed pouches with chemical indicator strips verifying exposure.
Autoclave Steam Sterilisation
Pouches undergo standard pressurized steam cycles designed to eliminate microbial organisms and spores.
Protected Storage & Patient-Side Opening
Processed sets are stored in clean, dry cabinets and opened only at the chairside in front of the patient.
