Will a Dental Abscess Go Away on Its Own?
A suspected dental abscess needs professional assessment. Less pain or an unpleasant taste in the mouth does not mean the infection has fully resolved.

Check for emergency signs first.
Difficulty breathing, speaking or swallowing, rapidly spreading facial or neck swelling, or swelling around an eye with visual symptoms needs emergency attention. In Türkiye, call 112 or seek emergency medical care. This information does not imply that the clinic provides a 24-hour emergency service.
Why does a dentist need to assess it?
Pain, swelling, fever or an unpleasant taste can have different sources. The problem may involve the inside of a tooth, the gums or another area. Treatment depends on its source and whether the affected tooth can be restored.
Are antibiotics enough?
They are not needed in every case and do not replace dental treatment that addresses the cause. A clinician should decide whether medication is appropriate. Do not take leftover antibiotics, someone else's medicine or change prescribed treatment yourself.
While arranging care
Do not pierce or squeeze the swelling or apply caustic substances. Clean gently and choose foods that are comfortable to eat. Ask for pain-relief advice suitable for your own health. When contacting the clinic, explain when swelling began, whether it is increasing and whether you have a fever.
