After Gum Treatment
This guide provides general aftercare information. Follow the individual instructions from the dentist who treated you. Contact the clinic about new or worsening symptoms.
Professional cleaning, root-surface treatment and gum surgery can require different care. Read this general guidance alongside the instructions for the procedure you actually had.
Sensitivity & gentle cleaning
Some sensitivity may follow non-surgical cleaning. Continue the gentle brushing and interdental routine you were shown. Do not abandon cleaning because of slight bleeding, but report bleeding that is significant or continues. After surgery, the timing for cleaning directly around the treated site may be different.
Interdental tools & habits
Use floss or an interdental brush of an appropriate size and technique. If a rinse is prescribed, follow the recommended duration; it does not replace daily cleaning. Tobacco use affects gum health and healing, and you can ask about support to stop.
When to seek review
Seek advice for increasing pain, swelling, fever or bleeding that does not settle. Follow-up frequency depends on disease severity, risks and treatment response. A fixed interval or guaranteed recovery time should not be applied to every person.
For difficulty breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading facial or neck swelling, or a serious injury, do not wait for an appointment reply. Call 112 for emergency help in Türkiye.
