After a Composite Filling
This guide provides general aftercare information. Follow the individual instructions from the dentist who treated you. Contact the clinic about new or worsening symptoms.
Some sensitivity can occur after a filling; its severity and whether it is improving matter. Instructions for a light-cured composite filling may differ from those for a temporary restoration. Ask which type you have and whether any particular eating advice applies.
Numbness & chewing caution
Chewing while numb can lead to a bitten lip or cheek. Avoid extremes of temperature if they trigger discomfort. Do not use teeth to crack ice, shells or other hard objects; that advice applies beyond the first day.
Bite feeling & margin cleaning
Continue brushing and cleaning between the teeth, including around the filling margins. Contact the clinic if the tooth seems to touch first or the filling feels high. Do not try to adjust it yourself.
When to seek assessment
Increasing or spontaneous pain, symptoms that wake you at night, swelling, or a broken or lost filling should be assessed. Do not wait for a fixed number of weeks if symptoms are concerning. Call the clinic to arrange an appropriate assessment.
For difficulty breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading facial or neck swelling, or a serious injury, do not wait for an appointment reply. Call 112 for emergency help in Türkiye.
